Leclerc Looms Are Now at Weavers Weft

Since I started carrying Leclerc shuttles, temples and heddles, one question keeps landing in my inbox: do you carry the looms too? The Voyageur comes up most. As of today, the answer is yes.

Seven Leclerc looms are now available on the site, from a 24" rigid heddle loom to a 60" floor loom. Each one is ordered directly from Leclerc after you place your order, so you get the loom, the size and the setup you chose.

The lineup

Rigid Heddle

  • Bergère 24": a rigid heddle table loom for plain weave, pick-up patterns and small tapestries. Choose one or two heddles.

Table Looms

  • Dorothy (15¾" or 24"): collapses for carrying and storage. Colored lever tabs make it easy to see which shaft you are lifting.

  • Voyageur (15¾" or 24"): folds down for travel and small spaces. The 24" size has a friction brake for advancing the cloth without interrupting your weaving.

Floor Looms

  • Compact 24": a jack-type floor loom that folds for storage, even with weaving in progress. Wheels are included.

  • Artisat 36": a wide loom for small spaces. It folds to 14" deep with weaving still on it, and allows any tie-up combination.

  • Nilus (36", 45" or 60"): a jack-type loom with a friction brake and removable front and back beams. It folds to 25" deep.

  • Fanny II (36", 45" or 60"): a counterbalance loom. The Fanny design has been a handweaver favorite for over 60 years, and the Fanny II adds a shed regulator for balanced and unbalanced weaves.

A closer look at the Voyageur

The Voyageur is a 4 shaft table loom that folds down for travel and small spaces. Leclerc describes the 15¾" size as a good fit for a beginner, or for anyone who wants a 4 shaft loom to carry along for a weekend.

The 24" size adds a friction brake, so you can advance the cloth without interrupting your weaving. The shafts are lifted with front levers, numbered from the right as standard. If you would rather have them numbered from the left, tell me when you order. There is no extra charge.

What comes with it:

  • Stainless steel reed, 12 dents per inch

  • 1 boat shuttle and 1 reed and heddle hook

  • 2 metal lease sticks and 10 loop cords for lashing

  • Transfer heddle bars and instructions

  • The book Warp and Weave

  • A carrying bag (15¾" size)

The 15¾" size weighs 16½ lbs and folds to 13" x 9" x 20". The 24" size weighs 25 lbs and folds to 28½" x 11¼" x 20½".

Jack or counterbalance?

This is the question that comes up most when choosing between the Nilus and the Fanny II.

  • Jack looms (Nilus, Compact, Artisat): the shafts lift independently, so any tie-up combination is possible.

  • Counterbalance looms (Fanny II): shafts are linked, so some rise while others sink. The Fanny II is limited to 4 shafts.
