Harrisville Designs Highland Wool Weaving Yarn
Harrisville Highland is the heavier-weight companion to Shetland — a sturdy, woolen-spun worsted that brings warmth, body, and those signature heathered colors to your woven projects. Like all Harrisville yarns, it is spun and dyed at their historic New Hampshire mill, where wool has been processed since 1794.
Highland uses the same premium wool blend as Shetland — fine Australian wool for softness paired with resilient New Zealand wool for structure — but at a worsted weight, it produces a denser, more substantial cloth. The higher twist gives it exceptional durability; finished fabric only improves with repeated washing and use. Cones are unwashed, so expect the hand to soften noticeably once wet-finished. Always sample and wet-finish before calculating your final sett.
Highland is a 2-ply worsted weight yarn suitable for weaving, knitting on US 5–7 needles, and crochet. An excellent choice for heavier blankets, placemats, bags, rugs, and wall hangings. Its tweedy, heathered shades — created by blending multiple dyed fibers — give finished fabric a richness and depth that solid-dyed yarns can't match.
Recommended Sett:
8–10 EPI
Yarn Details
100% Virgin Wool
Approx. 450 yards per ½ lb cone (unwashed)
